Winnipeg Folk Festival

Each July the Winnipeg Folk Festival brings together over 62,000 performers, volunteers and guests for a weekend of great music in Birds Hill Park, Winnipeg.

The first Winnipeg Folk Festival was held in 1974 in the park as a one-time celebration to mark Winnipeg’s 100th anniversary. The inaugural festival attracted 22,000 people and the festival laid down roots in the park. It has grown to be one of the premier outdoor music festivals in the world.

About 250 artists perform on seven stages around the festival site throughout the weekend. In addition to music, the festival features a Hand-Made Village, a Food Village, an outdoor art gallery and a young performers’ program.

The festival was the first event of its kind to be certified by Canada’s Environmental Choice Program with an EcoLogo as a “green event,” in recognition of their efforts to be environmentally proactive.
